IOM India Launches Project Promoting Regular and Assisted Migration of Youth and Skilled Professionals (PRAYAS)

New Delhi, 21 December 2023 – To commemorate International Migrants Day (18 December), IOM India launched the project ‘PRAYAS’ in New Delhi on 21 December 2023. The IOM Development Fund (IDF) supported project is a collaboration between the IOM India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA).

The launch event was chaired by the Secretary (CPV & OIA), Ministry of External Affairs, Shri Muktesh Pardeshi. The launch event, with seventy attendees, saw the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), IOM India Office, representatives from State Recruitment Agencies, members of Diplomatic missions in India, academicians, UN Agencies, and members of civil society.

The Project envisages bringing about a mapping report on International migration and mobility trends and patterns, needs assessment of state-level initiatives facilitating international migration, and strengthening systems for providing accurate and timely information on safe, orderly, and regular migration to internationally bound migrant workers and students from India.

Project PRAYAS not only aligns with the Government of India's priorities for the promotion of safe and orderly migration, but also aligns with Goal 10.7 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to facilitate orderly, safe, regular, and responsible migration and mobility of people. The project also adheres to the objectives of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) and the Migration Governance Framework (MiGOF).
